This project was done in partnership with visual artist Teresa Swiedert, who invited me to make six sound pieces based on speeches by Guarani farmers from the Kalipety village. The pieces became vinyl records, of which only one unit of each was made. However, you can listen to the digital version of the pieces on the project's website (listen here). There you'll find lots of information about this very special project, which the artist summed up as follows:

Substrato Guarani is an investigation into the correlation between the life of the soil and the life of the Guarani Mbyá farmers who live in the Kalipety village, within the Tenondé Porã territory, in the south of São Paulo.
Substrato Guarani is an exercise in listening, an attempt to translate the drawings and colors of the particles that make up the soil with the sounds that structure the words of those who plant.
Substrato Guarani is a composition and a confluence of things, beings, visions, sounds and different techniques.

Substrato Guarani is a collection/archive of vinyl records, accompanied by images and texts produced by a variety of existences:

Born in 1979 in São Paulo, Brazil. Rodolfo Valente is a composer working with instrumental, vocal and electronic media. With works performed in several countries, Valente collaborates frequently with other artists, both in the musical field (Arditti String Quartet, Nieuw Ensemble et al.) and other artistic expressions (film, theatre, dance, visual arts). Holding a PhD in Musical Composition (University of São Paulo), he’s been awarded the Camargo Guarnieri Composition Prize, was a winner in the Brazilian Composers’ Competition (Netherlands) and received a grant from IBERMUSICAS for an artistic residency in the Festival DME (Portugal).
